Saved Carts

One of the most powerful — and most underused — features on Dexter Index. Saved Carts let you store parts lists from your active cart, so ordering is faster, more consistent, and less likely to have errors.

How Our Customers Use Saved Carts

Every business type finds a different way to make this feature work for them.

🏪 Stocking Dealer

Weekly & Monthly Restocks

Stocking dealers build Saved Carts for their most popular shelf items — one cart per restock cycle or product category. When it's time to replenish, they load the cart, adjust quantities if needed, and check out. No rebuilding the order from scratch every time.

Example saved carts:

  • "Weekly Brake Restock"
  • "Monthly Hub & Bearing Order"
  • "Seasonal Tire Top-Up"

🔧 Repair Shop

Customer Repair

When a customer brings in a trailer for service, the tech builds a Saved Cart with every part needed for that specific repair job. This gives them an instant, accurate parts list — and a fast way to price out the job for the customer before ordering anything.

Example saved carts:

  • "Smith — 7K Brake Job"
  • "Johnson — Leaf Spring Replacement"
  • "Walk-in — Replacement Bearing Kit"

🏭 Trailer Manufacturer

Bills of Materials by Build

OEMs create a Saved Cart for each trailer model they build — essentially a digital bill of materials. When a production run starts, they load the cart for that build, verify quantities against the run size, and order. Every build ships consistently with the same parts every time.

Example saved carts:

  • "7K Tandem Utility Build"
  • "14K Dump Trailer — Running Gear"
  • "Enclosed Cargo 3500# Single Axle"

Create a Saved Cart

Saved Carts are created by adding parts from your active cart — either to a new saved cart or to an existing one.

How to create a Saved Cart

  • Build your order normally by adding parts to your active cart.
  • From the cart, click Save Cart to save the items.
  • Choose to save to a new saved cart (give it a descriptive name) or add to an existing saved cart.
  • Important: Saving your active cart as a saved cart will clear your active cart. Make sure you're ready before saving.
  • There is no limit on the number of saved carts or items per cart.
⚠️

Saving your active cart clears it

When you save your active cart to a saved cart, your active cart is cleared. If you need to continue ordering, load the saved cart back into your active cart after saving.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Give carts specific, descriptive names — "7K Brake Restock" is more useful than "Cart 1".
  • Saved carts are personal to your login — other users on your account won't see them.
  • You can add items to an existing saved cart at any time — you don't need to create a new one each time.

Manage & Edit Saved Carts

Saved carts aren't static — keep them up to date as your needs change.

What you can do with any saved cart

Rename it — use the Rename Saved Cart field at the top of the edit page and click Save Edits.

Add parts — add new items to an existing saved cart from your active cart at any time.

Remove parts — delete items that are no longer needed.

Update quantities — adjust the quantity of any line item before loading to cart.

Delete it — remove saved carts you no longer need to keep things tidy.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Review your saved carts periodically to make sure part numbers are still current — SKUs can change with product updates.
  • For repair shops: update the cart after the job is complete to reflect any substitutions, so it's accurate for the next similar repair.
  • For OEMs: version your cart names (e.g. "7K Utility Build v2") to track when you update your bill of materials.

Load a Saved Cart & Order

When you're ready to order, loading a saved cart takes seconds — and it never removes the saved cart.

How loading works

  • Go to Shopping Tools → Saved Carts.
  • Find the cart you want and click Add To Cart in the Action column.
  • The saved cart items are added to your current active cart — they don't replace it.
  • You can also open a saved cart and click Move All Items To Cart from the edit view.
  • The saved cart remains intact after loading — it is never removed or cleared.
  • Review quantities, check availability, and proceed to checkout as normal.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Because saved carts add to your current cart, start from an empty cart if you only want to order that saved cart's items.
  • You can load multiple saved carts into one active cart — useful if you're combining a restock order with a repair job.
  • Always check stock availability after loading — items that were available when the cart was saved may have changed.
⚠️

Remember: one branch per order

If your saved cart contains items from multiple branches, loading it may update your fulfillment location. Review your cart carefully before checking out, especially if ordering for multiple locations.

Save an Active Cart

Get interrupted mid-order? Save your active cart to pick up right where you left off — or use it to manage orders across multiple locations.

When saving your active cart is useful

You get interrupted — save your progress and come back exactly where you left off. Note that saving will clear your active cart.

Multiple users share a login — save your in-progress order so the next person doesn't accidentally clear it.

Ordering for multiple locations — since each order is tied to one shipping location, save the first location's cart (which clears it), then build a fresh cart for the second location.

You want approval before ordering — save the cart, share the name with your manager, and let them load and submit it when ready.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Name saved carts with a date if they're time-sensitive — e.g. "June Restock — hold for approval".
  • Remember: saving your active cart clears it. Load the saved cart back to active when you're ready to continue ordering.
