Design a New Axle

The Axle Designer walks you through every specification needed to build a custom Dexter axle — step by step.

What you'll choose

Dimensions

  • Hub Face measurement
  • Spring Center
  • Overhang Calculation
  • Tube Wall & Outer Diameter

Axle Type & Brakes

  • Axle Type (Brake, Beam, or Idler)
  • Brake Type (Electric, Hydraulic)
  • Brake Flange & Parking Cable
  • Wheel Bolt Pattern

Finish & Spring

  • Hub Finish (Gal-Dex or Painted)
  • Spindle Type (Drop or Straight)
  • Bearing Lubrication
  • Camber, Prewired, Axle Beam Finish
  • Spring Seats, Spring Type & Options

💡 Pro Tips

  • Measurements are entered in .125" increments — Hub Face max is 116".
  • The designer shows overhang minimums and maximums based on axle type to keep you within manufacturing tolerances.
  • Use the Notes field to add your PO number, trailer model, or any other reference — it appears on the submission and helps your team track the order.
  • Once designed and quoted (typically within 1 week), the axle will receive a Product ID — you can enter this directly in the Order Pad or search bar to add it to your cart quickly.

Reordering a Custom Axle

Once an axle has been designed and quoted, there are two fast ways to reorder it.

Two ways to reorder

🔄 Reorder Button

  • Go to My Axles and click View Details on the axle you want to reorder.
  • Click the Reorder button at the top of the detail page.
  • The axle is added directly to your active cart.

🔎 Product ID Search

  • Once an axle is designed and quoted (typically within 1 week), it is assigned a Product ID.
  • Enter the Product ID in the search bar or Order Pad to find and add it to your cart instantly.
  • This is the fastest method if you already know the Product ID.

💡 Pro Tips

  • If you build the same trailer model repeatedly, note the Product ID for each axle spec on your bill of materials — this makes reordering as fast as ordering a standard part.
  • Product IDs can also be added to a Saved Cart alongside your other running gear parts for a complete trailer build order.
